Rachel Ashwell’s home is no exception! Featured on My Domaine blog we just had to share Rachel’s masterpiece.
Stylish Shabby Chic
Rachel Ashwell’s is known for her signature “Shabby Chic” style. She used this in her Malibu home and was able to create not only a sanctuary for herself but also a place to entertain family and friends. She kept things simple with a white backdrop and a palette of blues that were a perfect combination considering her oceanside location.
Small But Amazing
Rachel was able to think outside the box and make the most of her small space. Turns out her Paradise Cove home is among one of the smallest in the community. She was also able to incorporate some of her own signature details. These included vintage wallpaper and gloss paint. Also, she painted all of the floors white which is perfect for life at the beach!
Favorite Spot in the Home
Rachel’s favorite place in the home is a small three-by-six space that she uses as a sleeping nook. A platform was built with storage drawers beneath and a mattress perched on top which made the perfect spot for reading or napping. We love it!

You say at the end “see more great designs from Ashley” do you mean Ashwell?
Hi Debra,
I’ve seen a lot of mobile homes get vinyl siding over the original metal using furring strips. The metal acts as an exterior sheathing and the holes are all sealed so water can’t get through. If there is bowing or rust I could see if being difficult. The only other thing I can think of is your location. We’re in WV, NC, and SC but in states like Florida, it may be too wet and hot to add vinyl over metal. I’d listen to the pros. Luckily, it doesn’t take much to remove the siding it’s just time-consuming.

We bought our 1987 mobile and are wanting to spruce up the exterior. We checked on new vinyl siding but no one seems willing or able to install it over the existing metal siding. I like the board and batten look. Any information on how to add over the metal siding?
