Sauder Experience – Furniture Review

Buying stylish furniture is never easy on a budget. The old saying about getting what you pay for rings true all too often these days. Usually, if you buy affordable furniture from the big-box stores you can be sure that the lifespan of the piece will be short and the quality will be low. You either save up for a high end piece of furniture that may or may not last a little longer or you find a company that produces stylish furniture at a fair price.

Occasionally, a company does come around that is able to offer their customers a stylish piece of furniture at an affordable price. Sauder is a company that I was introduced to recently that seems to do just that.

I was asked to do review for Sauder and give them my honest opinion about the ordering and assembly process, along with the style and quality of the furniture. Since we needed to buy new furniture for my daughter’s bedroom this was a perfect opportunity for me. Her old dresser was purchased from a well-known retail store and lasted less than a year before the bottom of the drawers fell through and the fronts fell off. It just couldn’t handle the wear and tear of daily use.

On their website,, everything is nicely organized by product, space, and style. Immediately, I was intrigued with their prices. It’s so easy to associate quality with price when it comes to furniture but that’s simply not the case. When I was in college, I worked for a large regional furniture company and learned a lot about the business. The most intriguing thing I learned was that besides jewelry, furniture is one of the most marked-up products in retail. Sometimes, furniture is marked-up as much as 500 percent! Of course, one of the best was to combat that ridiculous markup is to buy directly from the manufacturer which is exactly the case with Sauder.

I ordered 2 pieces of furniture for our daughters bedroom, a matching dresser and chest, in a dark cherry finish. They were modern, perfectly sized to work in multiple settings and the perfect solution for a pre-teen with a growing wardrobe. The prices were beyond reasonable, I spent less than $250 for both. Well within our budget!

The furniture arrived within 4 days. I had to help the UPS man move them from his truck to our deck which was where they had to stay until my husband came home from work. They were so heavy I couldn’t move them alone! When I bought the old dresser I recall carrying the box to the cash registers with little problem. These pieces were more than mere particle board.

Assembly was easy enough. The instruction manual was in English and all the pieces were there!

All in all, I’m impressed with Sauder, their products are stylish and affordable but still a good quality that will last much longer than a year. I had planned to install both the dresser and the chest in my daughter closet but she wouldn’t have any of that. She insisted that we keep it out in the open but the only way it would fit in her tiny room was if we added the small book shelf on top of the dresser and that’s exactly what we did for now. It’s holding a good bit of weight with no problems. I even ended up with the chest because the dresser held much more than I anticipated and she simply didn’t need the chest!

Next payday, I’ll be ordering the matching bookcase so that all the finishes match in her room and she has one cohesive style.

If you are looking for stylish, yet affordable, furniture I feel very comfortable in recommending Sauder.

As always, thank you for reading Mobile and Manufactured Home Living!
