Decorating a rental home is difficult. Landlords usually have a list of restrictions so you have to get creative.

You don’t have to make permanent changes to have a stylish home. Thanks to new products it’s easier than ever before to make your home gorgeous.

Below are a few of our favorite ideas for decorating a rental home on a tight budget.

Lovely New Lighting

One great suggestion for decorating a rental home is to change the light fixtures. You don’t have to spend a fortune – there are $20 light fixtures at Lowe’s. Flea markets and consignment shops are also great sources for light fixtures and lamps.

The best part about this update is that you can change out the fixtures, store the old ones in a safe place, and then replace them when you move. Just make sure the landlord is OK with the change out. Of course, electricity is a dangerous thing – if you aren’t comfortable with the wiring you can stick to changing the lamp shades.

Command Hooks + Wall Art = Easy Decorating

Wall art is a great way to add your own personal style to a rental home and thanks to Command Wall Hooks you don’t even have to put a hole in the wall. I absolutely love Command Hooks (and I am not getting paid to say that, unfortunately).

Thanks to Command Hooks you can add art to places art should not be and that’s what makes it so cool!

Command Hooks can be a little pricey but you can find them at Big Lots and if you buy the variety kits you save a few cents over buying one set at a time.

Decorating a Rental Home with Rugs

Rugs have been a staple in homes for centuries and for good reason, they are quick and easy to place in a room and a lot easier to clean than permanently installed carpet.

Rugs can add a great splash of color to your room and even help make your ceilings appear taller if you chose a darker color.

Removable Wallpaper for the Win!

The last idea (and best in my opinion) for decorating a rental home is removable wallpaper.

Removable wallpaper is a great alternative when you just can’t handle the white walls or the fake wood paneling that seemed to be in every rental I’ve ever lived in! This distressed wood wallpaper is less than $30 a roll at Amazon (affiliate link).

In addition to wallpaper, you can buy temporary 3D wall panels that add great texture to a room. Brick and faux wood are the most popular styles.

There are many brands available in many price ranges for both removable wallpaper and the wall panels but don’t go too cheap. I bought removable wallpaper from Big Lots and it stuck to the wall just a little too well.
