It’s that time of year! Spring is here, pollen is everywhere and the house is in need of some freshening. I’m not for sure where the concept of spring cleaning came from but it does make sense. We’ve had our homes sealed up throughout the winter months, the bugs are about to invade us with due diligence and the critters are stirring to find homes for the babies. Yep, it’s definitely a good time for cleaning and maintenance. That’s why we put together some of our favorite Spring cleaning ideas!
While you are in the Spring cleaning mood, you might be ready for some organization too! These articles about organizing your mobile home will help get you started:

I always helped my grandmother with spring cleaning and she took it seriously. Walls had to be washed down, upholstery and rug cleaning had to be done and we even painted the ceilings practically every year. She has coal heating so it did make sense (I really think coal heating is the main reason why spring cleaning became a tradition. Have you ever seen a home after a winter of coal heating? It’s not pretty but it sure is worth it because that heat is so warm and cozy!)

I’ve seen some pretty awesome quick cleaning tips lately on Facebook and Pinterest and thought I’d share a couple favorites.

Spring Cleaning Ideas

Windows are a pain, especially when you can’t reach some of them! I’ve found a few different recipes for streak-free finishes. Here’s one that makes sense because it has alcohol and dishwasher detergent to prevent spots:

  • 2 Gallons of Hot Water
  • 1 cup of dish-washer soap
  • 4 Tablespoons Alcohol
  • 1/2 bottle of “Jet Dry”
  • 1/4 Cup Ammonia

Hose windows down. Use a brush or sponge and then spray windows to rinse. No dry wiping needed!

Carpets are hard to keep clean, especially with pets. You can always hire professional rug cleaners and get some serious cleaning action or you can try it on your own. I’ve heard that some carpet manufacturers require a professional deep cleaning every so often to keep the warranty valid so it is a necessary thing for some people.

Vinegar and Detergent have been a popular recipe for cleaning carpets. Most recipes I’ve seen use equal parts (2 scoops of detergent to 2 cups vinegar). Some like powdered Tide and some like OxyClean. Mix thoroughly and add water to fill the shampooer.

There are tons of things that can use a deep cleaning. Sliding door tracks, ceiling fans, top of the cabinets, fireplaces, under furniture, and light fixtures. You can power wash the siding or heck, go ahead and paint it to give the house a whole new look. Getting a bit out of hand here, aren’t I?

Also, please don’t forget to check your fire alarms, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors, the venting for holes and loose connections, the furnace and air filters and do a thorough inspection of your home exterior, especially the roofing.

While you’re cleaning you should also gather up unused items for donation. Organize and clean one room at a time and do a little each day but don’t overdo it. It will all be there tomorrow, go out an enjoy the beautiful Spring sun!
