Our friends Carol and Bob from Florida recently listed their 1981 double wide for sale, and within two days it was scooped up. With more people headed to the sunshine state every day, It’s no surprise that this completely remodeled home wouldn’t last long. Listed and sold for their asking price of $155,000, the home is located in an upscale 55+ community and was first purchased in 2015 for only $22,000. We love the transformation!

Good Bones, But Dated

When the couple first purchased the 1981 double wide, it still had most of its original features, including lots of paneling, built-ins, and a very dated kitchen. However, the couple knew the bones of the home were good and that it all it needed was a fresh look. So, they went to work and the finished product is a stunner!

They knew the paneling and carpet had to go.
The kitchen needed a total new look.

Built-ins were very popular in the 80’s.
The lanai is very roomy, but very dated.
Nothing appealing about this exterior.

Breathing New Life Into an Older Mobile Home

As you can see, this was a total gut and remodel. Carol tells us there was a long list of updates they completed that included:

  • Tearing out the old ceilings and replacing the insulation
  • Placed tongue and groove on the ceiling
  • Built the barn doors and both closets
  • Tore out the old paneling, replaced the insulation, and put up new drywall
  • Installed luxury wide plank vinyl flooring
  • Added shiplap to the dining area and bathrooms
  • Installed Nautical lighting fixtures in kitchen, dining area, and hall
  • New kitchen including cabinets and appliances

Not to mention the home also has a new roof, and a new heating/cooling system. The entire home has a nice beachy/cottage feel that makes it perfect for Florida living. This was a massive remodel but they did a great job turning the dated 1981 double wide into a show stopper!

Bay windows allow for lots of natural light.
Tongue and groove ceilings!
Now this is a work space.
Plenty of counter and cabinet space.
An updated built-in with a wine fridge.
The flooring and ceiling continues to the bedroom.
So much to love about this room.

Perfect for Florida Living

The beachy feel continues outside as well with a complete update. They replaced the ugly brick and bushes in the front of the 1981 double wide with a cute picket fence, new landscaping all around, and added the deck to the front and side for updated appearance and additional outside living area. A fresh coat of paint and some outdoor seating complete the look. Carol says it’s her favorite place to be any time of day!

It’s hard to believe this is the same 1981 double wide the couple first purchased. Carol tells us they did most of the work themselves, although she does say they hired out some of the electrical and plumbing upgrades. Although they did sell the property, they only did so to move a little closer to the water. Hopefully, they will find another older mobile home to transform and will share it with us as well!
