My daughter is just starting her fall semester at Converse College, so I thought it would be nice to share some affordable mobile home decorating ideas for college students. Students need to express themselves while also having a good place to study.

I lived in a 1974 single wide while attending Marshall University in the mid-nineties. I was thrilled to find a place I could actually afford with a part-time waitressing job. It ended up being a cute little place after a few visits to Goodwill and the local flea markets.

Here are some ideas we’ve used to decorate her bedroom.

Wall Decor

College kids love photos! My daughter keeps thousands of photos on her phone and I bet yours does too.

Have them pick 10 of their favorite photos to create a gallery wall. Creating a photo wall will remind you of memorable moments with family and friends.

All you need are some photos, wire, and mini-clothespins to create a photo collage that brightens up any room and makes it more personal. You can also get a mesh board to put up on your wall and clip photos to it.

Affordable mobile home decorating ideas for college students: a gallery wall was created with cheap paintings and photos from goodwill.

If you have a printer (that actually has ink) and a few $1 picture frames from Dollar General, you can make a gorgeous gallery wall for less than $10. We published a complete guide for gallery walls here.

For a bohemian look, try hanging your photos on a rope attached to a piece of driftwood or branch like the image above.

Plants

Adding greenery to any room will instantly make it feel fresher and more appealing.

There’s a popular home decor trend that incorporates a lot of macrame, wicker, and plants like this:

If you don’t have a green thumb, there are many low-maintenance plants you can choose. Cacti and succulents are easy to take care of and can make a modern, graphic statement in your dorm room.

Other plants that are easy to grow include ferns, lucky bamboo, aloe vera, and air plants. Having plants in your room will help to lift your mood. They can also freshen the air and add a touch of color to the room.

Lighting

Softer lighting can help prevent headaches during long study sessions.

Students have so many deadlines and pressures, they need a calm, relaxed space to unwind when they get home. It doesn’t have to be fancy, a small desk with a task light is all it takes.

A desk lamp or table lamp can provide great task lighting. A lamp with a shade in a strong color and pattern can add to the modern vibe. Just make sure that it is functional and attractive at the same time.  If your college student is anything like mine, it may help to get dissertation writing services on Edubirdie.

Make Your Own Headboard

Making your own headboard allows you to customize it to suit your style. It can also save you lots of money.

The best room decor ideas are often simple ones that don’t cost a fortune.

Mirrors

Look for an old mirror in a second-hand store. You never know what you might find!

You can choose a mirror that best reflects your personal style. You want a mirror that fits in with your overall decor. Shabby chic is a great look:

A relatively simple, sleek, and slim mirror can add a modern touch. Attaching a mirror to your door will arguably take up the least amount of safety and still give you the convenience of checking your appearance before you go off to class.

Rugs

Rugs are an interior designer’s secret weapon. They can pull a room together instantly.

When looking for a rug, you must keep in mind its size, color, and pattern. Bedrooms are usually pretty small, so you need to know what size will work and the kind of impact a pattern and color will have.
