Linda and her husband recently shared their home transformation with us and we love it!  They gave a 1982 Prestige double wide a whole new look.

Name: Linda and her husband.

Location: Bradenton, FL.

Make and Model of Home: 1982 Prestige Double Wide.

The Project: Updating and brightening up their 1982 Prestige double wide.

Deciding to Make the Move

When Linda and her husband decided to move from their home in California, Florida was a natural choice since the home costs were lower, the weather was nicer and they could be closer to their family. They managed to come across this 1982 Prestige double wide located in a mobile home community and decided to take the plunge.

The 1300 square foot, 2 bedroom/2bath mobile home with an 11×20 lanai was in pretty good shape. Also, it luckily had a newer roof and heat pump. However, it did need some serious brightening up. Dark paneling and dark cabinets were the main theme throughout. Linda was able to send us some pictures that show just how dark and dreary the interior was. Take a look:

Paneling is so dark and outdated.
The home has so much potential.
Although dark, the home was in very good shape.
The range in the center is common in ’80’s models.
Love the eat-in option in a kitchen.
Bathroom could use some updating.

Amazing What a Fresh Coat of Paint Can Do

As you can see from the images, the biggest project was lightening up the dark paneling and cabinets in the 1982 Prestige double wide. Also, new vanities were installed in both bathrooms along with updating the walls in both. The couple removed the overhead cabinet from the center island, which really opened up the kitchen. Dark blue cabinets create a nice contrast to the white walls throughout.

Vertical blinds make the windows appear larger.
Love the built-ins that were in these 80’s homes.

The couple removed the overhead cabinets over the island and opened up the kitchen.

The tile work breaks up the bathroom space to make it look bigger.
The round mirror changes up the bathroom.
Nice, inviting space to enter the home.

Linda’s Thoughts

Linda’s source of inspiration: Pinterest and Mobile Home Living!

Total cost if the project: Around $15,000 (the couple used a portion of their 401k to fund the projects that have been completed so far).

Favorite spots in the home: Linda says she loves how the entertainment area turned out and her office space The bathrooms are a hit as well!

Future Plans: Linda says that the exterior could definitely use some love. They hope to continue the remodeling process once they secure some more funds.

Products or Items Used During the Update:  We used Behr Paint everywhere; Master bath vanity is from Wayfair because the Home Depot one arrived damaged; the TV/Fireplace surround is airstone from Lowes – great product.  Dining room chandelier from Target.  Bathroom mirrors from Big Lots (everyone comments on those)!

3d wallpaper is an affordable and quick way to give a room a new look.

Paint and primer are the way to go to cover paneling. #affiliate

It’s really is inspiring to see how an older mobile home can be transformed with a little love and a lot of elbow grease.
