This French Country Double Wide Manufactured Home Makeover is a Treat!

Former blogger and double wide domestic diva, Amanda Livenwell, is a pen name coined by this homeowner in her effort to chronicle when her family of 10 downsized from a 2200 square foot home in suburbia, complete with HOA, to a 10-acre country site and a French Country double wide.

Her blog, Queen of My Trailer, is a short blog, only active for a couple of years with sporadic posting. However, the quality of the posts, the immense information given and the topics covered make the blog a powerful resource for anyone living in a double-wide manufactured home.
Here’s how she describes herself:
“Amanda Livenwell is the pen name of a stay-at-home mom who shares the adventure of living large on one income in, yes, a double-wide trailer! Join our family as we say goodbye to suburbia, trim down, and start saving to build our own home. We’re going to talk about doing it yourself, living beautifully on less, making do or doing without, and counting it all joy in the process.”
Amanda has certainly transformed the double wide with an affordable makeover that put the focus on the surfaces in the home. Here’s a sneak-peak of the home after the manufactured home makeover:

Before Manufactured Home Makeover

Before her family moved into the home Amanda had a lot to do. She was determined to create a beautiful French Country double wide and that’s exactly what she did!

She began by painting the walls a light yellow and a bright white. Here’s what the home looked like before the manufactured home makeover:

Amanda then painted the cabinets in the kitchen. She used a product called Cabinet Rescue. It’s specifically for covering Formica laminate, melamine, solid wood, metal cabinets, factory finishes and previously painted cabinets.
Cabinet Rescue is affordable, $19.95 a gallon and it seems to coat the cabinets so typical in manufactured homes.

Amanda then resurfaced the countertop with a small 1-inch tile in a natural tan stone. The project cost less than $300.00 and allowed enough left over in her budget for new flooring.

She used sticky tiles as a floor covering in the kitchen. The overall effect is astounding.

After the painting and flooring were installed, Amanda brought in her comfortable French country furnishings and decor.
Her style certainly makes for an easy, comfortable and relaxed living!
She explains her style in detail on the blog. Some of her post are rather humorous as she talks about cleaning under the beds and couches and with 8 children in a 3 bedroom home, her domestic skills are honed to perfection!
There’s plenty of great tutorials about how she painted, tiled and re-floored her new double wide for this great manufactured home makeover.
Amanda Livenwell definitely knows how to live well!
