We have a weakness for Airstream makeovers here at Mobile Home Living. Because, of course, anytime someone can take something that looks ready to be trashed and turn it into a treasure we love to share it.

You may not know this, but Airstreams have been around since the 1930’s. The very first Airstream sold to the public sold for $1200 way back in 1936. They were actually the only travel trailer to still be manufactured before, during, and after the depression. That says a lot about the quality of these silver beauties.

Recycled Materials Bring this 1970’s Airstream Back to Life

Our first find was recently featured on Dwell. A 1970’s Airstream that had been left deserted on a job site, but was quickly picked up by the builder on the site, Ryan and his wife Catherine, who saw the unlimited potential of the Airstream. Although it was a total gut job, the finished look was worth the effort! The couple used many reclaimed materials, including douglas fir for the flooring and sawmill extras for the sofa, and even thrift shop fabric finds for the upholstery and curtains.

The coffee table was found in an old shed.
Sleek lines highlight this transformation.
Even the cabinets are made from reclaimed items.
Nice size shower for a small space.
She’s a beauty!

1976 Airstream is Dreamy

Our next find comes from a sweet blog we found online, from Lynne Knowlton who has, Design the Life You Want to Live. Turns out Lynne had always dreamed of owning an Airstream, so when one finally turned up for sale she couldn’t wait to make it hers. And we have to say, WOW! She took a 70’s interior and transformed it into a dreamy blend of white and pops of color that you have to see to believe.

Typical 70’s look.
Hardly looks like the same space.
Such a cramped feeling.
White backdrop with pops of color opens the space up.

1962 Airstream is a Natural Beauty

Our last of the Airstream makeovers today comes the site, Treehugger. This 26 foot Airstream was a long time dream for artist Bonnie Christine and her husband. Their goal was to find an older Airstream that just needed their personal touch, but not a full renovation. So, they were thrilled when they found exactly what they were looking for!

Named Miss Marjorie in honor of its original owner, this 1962 is a beautiful combination of pastel colors that creates not only the perfect vacation home, but also serves as an office space when its parked.

The pastel colors are a perfect combo.
Anyone else a fan of copper accents?
The table will create extra sleeping space if needed.
The perfect way to travel.

We hope you have enjoyed these 3 impressive Airstream makeovers as much as we did.
