Registering your Manufactured Home with the Colorado DMV

When purchasing a new manufactured home in Colorado, it’s important that it’s registered with the Colorado Department of Revenue.

There are different requirements that must be met when you register your home with the Dept. of Revenue, and the filing depends on the location of the mobile home. For instance, if the home is permanently affixed to the land the Certificate of Permanent Location would be used. There are also Certificate of Removals and Certificate of Permanent Location for Manufactured Home Subject to a Long-Term Land Lease.

You can read more about the specific requirement here: Colorado Department of Revenue, Manufactured Homes Division.

Keep in mind, if buying a new manufactured home, the dealer should typically handle all the paperwork and filing for you. Just be sure to double check that it is done.

1 Year Warranty on ALL New Manufactured Homes

When you buy a new manufactured home it always includes a 1-year warranty from the manufacturer. This is a national regulation.

Issues that occur within the first year will be solved by contacting the dealer. Make sure every communication is in writing and mail the complaint via certified mail so there is a paper trail proving you notified the proper companies within the first year.

If the Issue is Not Resolved Properly

If you are unable to get your issue resolved by the dealer or manufacturer your next step should be filing a complaint in order to see the problem resolved.

Colorado is one of 26 states that manage their own HUD Manufactured Housing Dispute Resolution Programs. An official complaint form was not found on the state website, but there is a list of what each complaint should include:

  • Name
  • Mailing Address
  • Home Location (if different than mailing address)
  • Telephone Number
  • HUD Label Number
  • Serial Number
  • Date of Purchase
  • Date of Manufacture
  • Name of Manufacturer
  • Detailed List of All Problems with the Home
  • Copies of All Correspondence with the Manufacture and/or Dealer

This information should be forwarded to the following address or emailed directly (be sure to keep a copy for your records as well).
