Melodie just completed her secondĀ modern manufactured home makeoverĀ and it’s as gorgeous as the first!Ā Last year we featured a beautifulĀ double wide that was expertly decorated by Melodie Palencia and her husband. It continues to be one of Mobile Home Living’s most popular featured homes.
Melodie and her husband sold their first manufacturedĀ home and bought themselves another. Of course, Melodie made the new home all her ownĀ with a trendy modern manufactured home makeover. The home was originally shared on one of my all-time favorite blogs called My Heart’s Song. Geneva is a fellow manufactured homeowner and talented decoratorĀ –Ā her home is amazing! Visit the My Heart’s SongĀ blogĀ by clicking here!Ā
Melodie’sĀ previous home wasĀ a perfect mix of a shabby chic and modernĀ farmhouse style. Her trademark white walls and colorful furniture pieces mixed with warm neutral elements creates a space that is perfect for easy living.

Modern Manufactured Home MakeoverĀ
MelodieĀ has a significant style that she has used in both of her modern manufacture home makeovers.Ā First, sheĀ paintsĀ the walls and ceiling white. ThisĀ creates a fresh canvas ready for expertly chosen and paired layersĀ ofĀ furniture, textures, and colorful elements. This layering techniqueĀ creates depth and visual appeal.
Living RoomĀ
The living room is a wonderful mixture of welcoming and stylish. A great mix of contemporary and vintage inspired pieces are paired perfectly. You can read more about the living room on My Heart’s Song blog.Ā
Melodie’s living room has all the modern trends!
Wainscoting adds a great textural element to the wall. It’s important that you use the rule of thirds in a manufactured home since our sidewalls are often lower than a site-built home.Ā My Heart’s Song shares more detail about the project:
Plywood painted white serves as the floor covering on this modern manufactured home makeover. Geneva, of My Heart’s Song blog, asked Melodie about the choice:
Melodie and her hubbyĀ also used plywood cut into strips to add the trendy shiplap pattern to a few walls throughout the home.
This image above shows the wood stove in the living room without the natural shiplap wall treatment. The image below is after shiplap was installed:
Kitchen
The kitchen is just as fabulous as the living room!
Using a neutral wall color is perfect for manufactured homes as it allows light to bounce around and makes rooms appear larger.
Black countertops and home decor elements are used throughout the kitchen to ground the space. You can never go wrong with black and white in a kitchen.
While black and white takes center stage, Melodie uses a single art piece in the kitchen for a greatĀ splash of color. (IĀ think IĀ saw that awesome cow canvas at Ross’s for around $29.95.)
Using open shelving instead of cabinets is a great way to add more visual impact to a kitchen. Apothecary Jars, natural wood, and white ceramics are all popular decor choices for modern kitchenĀ makeovers.
You can read more about the kitchen here.Ā
The Kitchen Before
Here is the kitchen before the coupleĀ completed their second modern manufactured home makeover. The transformation is amazing!
Transformation Take 2
Melodie’s modern manufactured home makeover evolved over a short period. One of the coolest transformations occurred in the informal dining area.
The space was originally used as a backdoor mud room but Melodie decided an informal eating nook would be a smarter use of the space.
She had originally set up the mudroom like this:
My Heart’s Song created a great visual board of the process:

Formal Dining Room
Having a formal dining room is important for the family and they sure know how to make theĀ spaceĀ beautiful and functional!

Master BedroomĀ
The master bedroom is so cute!
Bathrooms
There are two bathrooms in this double wide and they are both awesome!
The master bathroom is farmhouse fabulous:
The second bathroom is smaller but it has all the great decorating features that Melodie is so known for:
Guest Bedroom and Craft Room
Of course Melonie needs a space to create! The guest bedroom also works as her craft and sewing room. The gift-wrapping station alone is envy inducing but the sewing table is just a crafty girl’s dream!

No doubt about it, Melodie’s second modern manufactured home makeover is amazing! I adore both homes and would LOVE to call either one of the home.
Melodie has proved, once again, that manufactured homes can be as beautiful and functional as any site-built home.

Hi Crystal! I enjoyed reading your blog and thanks for sharing this. There are so much inspiration here and I absolutely love these makeovers. I like the living room most, it looks so warm and very spacious. Thumbs up!
I would love to do this! I am looking forward to remodeling my home! This is gorgeous! I have two boys 19, 23 –living at home still. I would like to know about the flooring. That is the main thing that I have to right now. Is it straight panels? Did you sand them down? Prime, painted with the porch paint is that why they look so shiny? I love the open shelving! I have cabinets like the one you show in your before shot. what a wonderful idea! I love looking at make overs! Looking forward to response about the flooring that is my most urgent to do.
Hi Linda,
The flooring is just high quality plywood cut down into planks. If I recall correctly, they just painted it with porch and floor paint.
