This 2015 double wide is a visual feast of modern farmhouse decor that’s just in time for Fall!
Ashley and her husband live in Texas so it makes sense that their beautiful 2015 double wide made by Clayton has a modern farmhouse style. The modern farmhouse style was made famous by another Texas couple, Joanna and Chip Gaines, via their HGTV series Fixer Upper.
What is Modern Farmhouse Decor?
If we had to define modern farmhouse decor we’d probably say it’s a healthy dose of fresh white cottage chic mixed with clean natural textures. White and wood combos work perfectly in a rural setting among red barns and farms.
We found Ashley on Instagram, @cottonncopper and I’m so thankful she answered my message and has been kind enough to share their gorgeous home and a couple of their farmhouse decor projects they have completed.
Farmhouse Beautiful Living Room
While the couple still considers the living room a work in progress but we think it’s pretty perfect already.
The first major change they did was paint the living room walls a cozy grey. The modern farmhouse style is best known for its extensive use of white and natural wood tones. Grey is a great color to soften the white up a bit without being as harsh as black.
Next, Ashley DIYed used dropcloth to create budget-friendly curtains. Her DIY drop cloth curtains hang on 1/2 inch galvanized pipe that she spray painted bronze. We found steps to make your own dropcloth curtains on The Design Twins blog. The coffee table is a DIY project as well.
Lastly, the couple installed a faux wood beam to add character and natural texture to their otherwise plain ceiling. The beam extends from the living room into the dining room and will be added to the mudroom later. They plan to tear up the living room carpet and whitewash the floor too.
Gorgeous Kitchen in 2015 Double Wide
The kitchen in this Clayton manufactured home is gorgeous!
White cabinetry and black appliances with wired pendant lights are a great combination to achieve the modern farmhouse style.
Magnificient Mudroom
Of course, Ashley wanted to make her 2015 double wide both functional and gorgeous. To do that, she focused on her family’s drop zones, the mudroom and laundry room. The mudroom has plenty of smart storage with well-placed hooks and baskets for the kid’s belongings.
To create that perfect modern farmhouse style the couple whitewashed the mudroom floors and used 1/8″ plywood to create shiplap. White and wood are iconic modern farmhouse additions and give a room depth and texture.
Future plans for the room include painting the doors a subtle grey, adding a faux beam (check out the living room project to learn more), and installing trim.
If you are thinking about giving whitewashing a try but aren’t sure where to start, you might check out this article we found on Better Homes & Gardens, “How to Whitewash Wood Floors” to get you started.
Dreamy DIY Kid’s Bedroom
Another really awesome DIY project that this talented couple has created is this dreamy bunk bed. WOW!
Beautiful Bedroom DIY
Ashley and her hubby are true DIY pros. They have customized their home and filled it with furniture and decor that they’ve built themselves. You can find a DIY build in practically every room of this 2015 double wide.
Ashley says she envisions the furniture she wants to create first and then works with her handy husband to bring the idea to life. For their master bedroom, the couple built a headboard that is large enough to act as a centerpiece for the space.

Ashley’s Tips and Thoughts
Ashley was kind enough to answer a few questions for us.
What tools and materials were used: Table saw, miter saw, 18 ga. brad nailer, circular saw, Valspar paint, paint rollers, paint brushes, liquid nails, Minwax Polycrylic in clear satin, 1/8 inch plywood for shiplap and flooring.
What was the biggest challenge: Time. Projects often take longer to complete than I like to think they would take. With work and the kids after school activities, it’s hard to find the time where we can be at home working on the project.
Proudest DIY moment: The faux beam we added between our living room and kitchen/dining room.
Favorite room in the home: The living room.
Any remodeling products (ex: paint, tools, fixtures) or home decor items (ex: curtains, pillows, anything you used to create your design style) you used that we can share with our readers:
All of the paint that we use is Valspar and the stain is Minwax Provincial 211.
Most of our home decor is either DIYed or from Hobby Lobby, Walmart or TJ Maxx items. Our couch pillow covers are from H&M Home.
Ashley and her husband are doing a wonderful job transforming their 2015 double wide into a modern farmhouse decor masterpiece. All of their ideas are DIY and budget-friendly and prove that it’s possible to create the home you want. We can’t wait to see what they do next!

Texas Mobile Home Magic?
I swear I’m not a conspiracy theorist but I’m beginning to wonder about Texas. I’m convinced the state must have some kind of home decorating magic in its water. We’ve featured several Texas mobile homes over the years and they are all absolute stunners. Geneva, from the My Heart’s Song’s blog, was our first Texas mobile home tour. The Phillip’s has allowed us to share both of their single wides. There are many more Texan homes we’ve featured here and here. Someone, please send me some of that water, please!
We found Ashley on Instagram and would love to find you, too! Just use @MobileHomeliving or tag your images with #mobilehomeliving or #mobilehomeproud and we’ll probably see it. Of course, you can always email us at getfeatured@mobilehomeliving.org.
As always, thank you for reading Mobile Home Living®.
Geneva is a great decorator. I encourage you to stay inn touch with her for updates because she redecorates every so often, changing accessories or style. The last photos I saw of her porch were wonderful, and what she and Buzz do with a mobile home park is incredible. I really appreciate your articles. Thank you for the encouragement you give to mobile home owners!
