Mobile Home or RV?
Park models are complicated little homes. Their size determines their classification as either a manufactured home or a recreational vehicle. These homes are in Oregan and in the US they have to have more than 400 square feet of living space to be considered a manufactured home (it’s 540 sq. ft. in Canada). These homes meet that requirement.

Here in California, Park Model homes are under 400 sq ft. You can then put them in a travel trailer park and just pay space rent.
What is the possibility of accumulating of contractors by state who are experienced in remodels for mobile homes. It has been a frustrating experience for me as the people we have met with do not have any idea what they are talking about. And because of your magazine we have been educated in what to look for and when to go running. I’m still looking for someone in the eastern Washington area. My husband is to the point of pulling it out and building new. I know there was a couple that had a single wide remodeled and would love to find out who they used.
Hi Gail,
This is a national problem (except in WV because it’s so economically depressed that any work is welcome). I’m trying to put a couple of different things together that will help homeowners find contractors that will work on mobile homes and will do a good job. I think an Angie’s List for mobile homeowners would be perfect. Get ahold of your local mobile home parts supply store and ask them for a few names. If anyone knows who works on mobile homes it will be the suppliers.
Also, I spoke to that couple and they weren’t so happy with their contractor and didn’t want to give them a reference.
Best of luck!
Hi Crystal,
I am still loving your online magazine. I sent some you info a while back about our current home remodel (1989 Palm Harbor doublewide) but have not heard back. Would love to tell you about it.
I was writing to ask if you knew about (or could verify for readers) Florida allowing Park Models to be 500 SF or less and can be built to HUD code and still qualify to be Park Models? If you visit Skyline Homes site (Ocala Florida) you can read more about the models they offer. A neat way to have a small home (or getaway) and still be relatively assured of quality standards.
Again…great to read on this site as always.
Sincerely,
Mike Bartlett
